MICHAEL CHABLUK April 7, 1921 - December 20, 2003 Peacefully, on Saturday, December 20, 2003 Michael Chabluk passed away at Kin Place Personal Care Home Oakbank, MB at the age of 82 years. Survived by wife Anastasia (nee Palidwor) and two sons, Bill (Maryka) and Terry; three grandchildren, Katrusia, Mikhas and Ivasyk Chabluk. Predeceased by his parents, Vasyl and Anastasia; as well by his two sisters, Maria and Hannia in Ukraine. Michael was born in Ozeriany, Buczacz, Ternopil in Ukraine. He graduated from Teachers College in 1944 and immediately went to serve in the 1st Ukrainian Army, Halychyna Division. He spent two years as a prisoner of war in Rome, Italy before immigrating to Canada. He came to Oakbank, in the fall of 1947 and married Anastasia (Nettie) Palidwor in 1949. They moved to Toronto where Michael worked for Simpson Sears for 10 years. They returned to Dugald, MB where Michael farmed while also working for Westeel-Rosco. He retired in 1984. In 1992, Michael fulfilled a lifelong dream of returning to a free Ukraine and visiting his remaining family. Michael was a long-standing member of the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cooks Creek, MB where he sang in the choir and served on the Parish Council for many years. He was also a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Cooks Creek Council No. 7002. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Bruce Kowaluk and the staff and volunteers at Kin Place Personal Care Home. Prayers will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Cooks Creek, on Friday, December 26 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will also be at Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday, December 27 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Chabluk, Tony Chabluk, Scott Chabluk, Darcy Gulka, Glen Panchyshyn and Gerry Palidwor.
